Jared Clout, a Licence to Work student from our 2020 Tauhara College class is now fully employed at Downer Taupo Limited.
His journey began when he was placed at Downer for his work experience in September 2020. At the completion of his 80 hours work experience he had taken a real interest in the water side of the organisation. With no current vacancies available at that time, he decided to continue working one day a week on a voluntary basis to increase his knowledge and skill set.
In March 2021 an opportunity came up for Jarod to attend a 5 day recruitment course where he took part in many practical activities related to the organisation. Following on from this course he was then offered full time employment.
Jared has now been in his role for approximately 6 months and is absolutely loving it. He is involved in all areas of the maintenance of the Taupo water system, ranging from fixing pipe leaks to installing new water connections. Jared takes part in regular training opportunities and has recently completed a gas testing course. Over the past month he has been put onto the on-call roster and now has his own work vehicle.

From being quite unmotivated at school, to finding a pathway I am passionate about, has given me a new lease of life. I love that the work takes me all around the Taupō/Turangi district and I am able to explore new places and I continue to learn everyday.” – Jared Clout
